A community forest on the edge of Sri Muktsar Sahib — planted, managed, and protected by the village committee with support from the Foundation.
The community forest at Sri Muktsar Sahib was established in March 2025. The land was identified with the village committee; the species were chosen with local knowledge — ber, neem, shisham, and peepal, all species appropriate to the Malwa.
Initial planting happened during the 2025 monsoon. The village committee continues the three-year care plan: watering, protection from grazing, and replacement of any failed saplings.
Once the trees are established, the forest belongs to the community — for shade, fodder, fruit, groundwater recharge, and the slow accumulation of ecological wealth.
