Native Plant Nursery
Creating a nursery of high-quality native plants.
Why this work matters.
A nursery of indigenous species is the foundation of all restoration work. Without locally sourced, locally adapted saplings, plantation drives fail within a season. Kesu Environment Foundation operates a native plant nursery that grows species appropriate to the Punjab plains, the Shivalik foothills, and the arid zones of Rajasthan and Haryana.
Species in the nursery include Ber (Ziziphus mauritiana), Neem (Azadirachta indica), Shisham (Dalbergia sissoo), Peepal (Ficus religiosa), Bargad (Ficus benghalensis), Khejri (Prosopis cineraria), Imli (Tamarindus indica), and Amb (Mangifera indica) — all indigenous, all important to the region's ecology and cultural history.
Saplings are distributed to villages, gurdwaras, schools, and community forest sites. Where possible, cuttings are taken from documented heritage trees, so the saplings carry the genetic lineage of the originals.

All photographs are taken by the Foundation's field team with the permission of the communities they depict. The work continues — the gallery is updated as new documentation happens.
