The story

What we are doing, and where.

Amritsar district, Punjab
Started September 2025

A field-driven effort to document every surviving heritage tree in Amritsar district — from the Dukh Bhanjani Ber at the Golden Temple to the lesser-known patches in villages around the city.

The Amritsar documentation drive began in September 2025. Our field team visits each patch in person: photographs the tree, records a GPS coordinate, interviews the shrine custodians and local elders, and writes up the story.

Each record is reviewed by a senior researcher and — with the custodian's permission — published. The records are also shared with the SGPC and the Punjab Forest Department.

As of this update, seven patches in Amritsar district have been documented. The drive continues.

Every tree is a record. We are making sure the record survives.

The tree is not decoration. It is the reason the building is there.

This work is only worthwhile if it is done thoroughly.
